Marvel Supports SOPA at CBR →

While I don’t think SOPA is a good thing I can see where Marvel is coming from. They are a business and you can’t finance a business on good feelings and wishes. I don’t download my comics. I buy them all. In fact I don’t pirate anything. I’m of the mind if you like something and you think it’s worth your money you should pay for it. Yes some things are expensive, but that still doesn’t justify stealing it. Clothes, cars, food, cell phones, etc can be expensive. Does that mean you should steal all that?
Also I’m personally uncomfortable with the idea of taking something for free when someone worked very hard on it and their livelihood depends on that product making them money. Sure some of these folks may be rich, but I think the numbers add up and it makes a big impact. I’m a journalist and I currently get paid by the article. Now I would be very upset if my articles were being published elsewhere and I wasn’t getting paid for it. It would suck.
I don’t know if running a blog and posting and reblogging images that don’t belong to me makes me a hypocrite or not. But those are my thoughts and I’m not going to boycott Marvel. Maybe there’s a better solution to the problem than SOPA.
Uncanny X-Force and Archangel
So the ending to the Dark Angel Saga is over and done with, but I got to thinking about the curve ball ending Remender threw readers. Personally I was expecting Warren’s death. Like dead and gone from the Marvel Universe. I was surprised at the end when Warren’s body is alive but pretty much every thing else about him is gone. I guess the seed gave made him a blank slate.
Initially I thought that wasn’t so bad. I mean Warren is still alive right? It’d be worse if he were dead. But then I got to thinking of how much it would suck for that situation to play out in real life. I couldn’t imagine someone I love or care for not having memories of me. Someone you love doesn’t recognize you or acknowledge your relationship? That sucks! Maybe it’s not bad as death, but it’s still pretty terrible. I can’t imagine having to cope with that.
I guess the hope for fans of Warren is that he is alive and there may be some hope for him retuning to normal.
X-23 & Hellion
So I’ve been looking around Tumblr the past couple weeks and I’ve noticed a lot of people are getting upset over what happened between Laura and Julian. I’ve made a post about it before, but I sympathize a lot of with what people are saying. I’ve been a fan of Laura since NYX and her “Marvel Next” mini series. I became a fan of Julian when I started reading New X-Men.
Anyway in X’s solo book it looked like Liu was setting up for a nice reunion between the two and possibly them working out a relationship that never really got going in the first place. It always seemed this two were off and on, maybe so maybe not. Well to my surprise Liu decided to keep them apart and I think it makes sense, as much as I think it sucks at the same time.
I don’t think either character or their history together has been ruined. In fact it’s probably just been given a new wrinkle. Laura and Julian remind me of a younger version of Rogue and Gambit. Off and on. There’s something there but for what ever reason it doesn’t happen. Perhaps this is what Laura and Julian will be like in the future. Who’s to say what will happen in future stories?
Another thing I noticed is that relationships within the X-Men don’t seem to go well at all. Check it out:
- Scott and Jean- Probably the biggest and most tragic.
- Scott and Emma- Both have kept secrets from the other and now there’s Namor.
- Betsy and Warren- One of the more tragic ones in recent stories.
- Kitty and Pete- Seems every time they get together they are torn apart again.
- Rogue and Gambit- Long term ups and downs
- Polaris and Havok- Not sure if they count or not. Where the hell are they anyway?
- Wolverine and ?- A lot of his ladies have been killed right?
I’m sure I’m forgetting some, but those are the ones that stand out to me. I guess my main point is that it’s not the end of the Laura and Julian. So people should not get too upset over it. Nothing in comic books seems permanent.
