Nearly forgot about doing these posts but better late than never right? Here’s the list for the new books on shelves this week. There are some big ones too. From the internet sites I frequent it would seem DC’s efforts have been successful. I think there are some bumps in the road as far as some of the books are concerned, but that’s to be expected. I wasn’t expecting this relaunch to be perfect and I won’t be surprised if/when a book or two is canceled. Here’s week 3.
- BATMAN #1
- BIRDS OF PREY #1
- BLUE BEETLE #1
- CAPTAIN ATOM #1
- CATWOMAN #1
- DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1
- GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1
- LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #1
- NIGHTWING #1
- RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1
- SUPERGIRL #1
- WONDER WOMAN #1
Batman is pretty much a guaranteed success right? I mean it’s Batman. I’m a big fan of Scott Snyder who is writing the book and very talented. I’m expecting a great story. This is probably a must buy book.
Birds of Prey has seen some big changes from the original book. I was reading the Simone title before the relaunch and it was losing my interest. So I don’t know if I want to check this out. Some recent solicitations hint at a big and early shake up for the book though. Maybe this is one to watch.
Blue Beetle is a book I can’t comment much about. I do know the character has been quite popular recently and had a solo book before the relaunch that was canceled. Maybe it works this time around
Captain Atom all my knowledge about Captain Atom comes from the Justice League Unlimited cartoon. He had some pretty good appearance in that show. Based on his powers this could be an interesting book for new comers and old fans alike. This is a book I’ll skip.
Catwoman this is another book I’ve been eagerly awaiting. I enjoy Winick’s writing and March’s cheesecake style is always fun to look at. Selina has had a successful solo before, but I wasn’t reading it at the time. Maybe current buzz around Anne Hathaway and her Selina Kyle role in the next Batman movie will bring in some new readers.
DC Universe Presents The solicitation says that this will spotlight some of DC’s most exciting heroes. The initial story arc features Deadman who is a cool character and seen a boost in popularity after Brightest Day. I’m not planning to get this, but maybe casual readers will find the changing featured hero interesting.
Green Lantern Corps Seems like this book will feature more traditional GL stories. Lots of space cop action and what not. Green Lantern has a story featuring Sinestro and Hal that seems to be happening outside the regular GL happenings.
Legion of Super Heroes The heroes from the future that I know very little about! Never was big into Legion stories, but they’ve been around for awhile and I’m sure the fans will pick this up.
Nightwing Dick is back in the Nightwing role and I can’t remember if I added this to my pull list or not. Anyway Dick is a cool character as Batman or Nightwing and I think I’ll check this out. Nightwing has his cult followers right? He’s by no means an obscure character.
Red Hood and The Outlaws I’ll be honest I want to read this book because I love Kenneth Rocafort’s art. It’s so energetic and dynamic. The main characters are pretty cool, but never a huge fan of them. I don’t know if Rocafort is leaving after the first arc or what, but maybe this book will be good enough to stick with.
Supergirl has a solicitation that just sounds interesting. I read her solo a long time ago but dropped it when the story quality went down severely. I think it was about the time she donned a headband in one issue. Anyway this could be a fun title.
Wonder Woman a new number 1 after I don’t know how many relaunches and reboots. The recent Odyssey story arc was interesting. It had some bright spots, but was far from perfect. In fact I think Wonder Woman is one the characters that can benefit the most from the relaunch. A fresh start for Diana could be big and maybe lead to more success for her in other forms of media. Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang are immensely talented. I’m not sure if they are the ongoing creators but Diana should be getting a strong start. Hopefully this is the start of some stability for Wonder Woman.
